On the main page there is an extraneous vertical band at the right of the page header which is not present when viewed through Safari or Chrome. Now a scenario about the views/votes : i open a photo which has 2000 views and 300 votes. there must be a good reason 2000 people opened this photo to view it, perhaps most of them doesn't approve the idea of "LIKE" voting and they don't vote ever, others do not care but however the photo might worth something after all. In the "photos" page, we have the four categories popular/editors-choice/upcoming/fresh, and most of those pages have about 1000 pages of photos on them. There are links to the first 9 pages, and then the last few. Basically 900 of those pages are functionally inaccessible unless one spends half an hour clicking through the pages. I'd like to see either or both of a 'random' page button (where you click on it and it picks one of the 1000 pages at random and displays it) or a box to enter the page number you want to go to. Personally, I like to try and find images that might have slipped past other people, or were uploaded at a quiet time on the site. Granted, the changes don't make a night and day difference in the appearance of pictures. And if 500px were in the market for socialising and casual image uploads, like for example flickr, that would be fine, no doubt. But if it is noticable enough (artifacts, slightly mudded colors) for someone like me to see right away on a calibrated device, I can only imagine the discontent of people who are actually skilled at photography and want to present their work in the best way possible or even sell it. It's a nice site and great community, but here's the procedure I need to use to accomplish my goal of uploading multiple pictures with the filename as the title into multiple sets that are private and password protected. 1) In Lightroom, export all my files to a web sized format with the file name 2) Reimport the new files into Lightroom and create individual catalogs for sets 4) Go to 500px online and create sets with the matching names as the ones in Lightroom and set to private. 5) Upload the sets to 500px with the plug in via Lightroom (which seems to take much longer than using the 500px mac app) 6) Go to 500px online and assign passwords to the sets (Lightroom isn't able to upload to password protected sets) And Lord help you, when you make a mistake and need to delete a set, cause then you still need to delete the photos in the library. And you have to click 'delete' then 'ok' for each one! Try doing that 453 times. If there is an easier workflow that I've missed or something I'm doing wrong, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know! Otherwise, I hope the programmers at 500px are working diligently to improve the file management capabilities of this site. Thank you! First, the question- do other members find that it's too time consuming and difficult to follow multiple fellow members on this site, due to the high number of images that many members post? I know that you do not have have to comment and vote on each and every image, but once they know you are following them, it seems to be expected. I suppose that it's easier if you copy and paste the same comment, but for those of us who want to actually leave a comment that's meaningful, it's very time consuming, and it feels like a chore rather than an enjoyable experience. In my opinion, the best photography on this site can be found in the profiles of members who take great care in what they post, and only post once a week or so. This leads me to my idea, which I would be curious to know what other members think of...perhaps members could post as often as they like, but only be allowed to put a small number of images up for a comment and vote each week- maybe two maximum? All images posted would show up in the following feed and on the member's profile page, but a small icon would indicate what images that member would like to receive comments and votes on. I feel like too many members are posting to feed their egos on this site, and not taking care to improve their craft..instead they are copying and pasting hundreds of times a day just to receive reciprocal votes on images that do not belong on "The World's Best Photography" site. Flickr maybe, but not here. If members could only put a few images a week up for comments and votes, I feel like the quality would immediately improve, and I personally would follow many more members and have the time to explore many more new images that are posted each day. However, if these things haven't been considered, I sure hope they will: 1. There's currently no way (that I see) to return to a Photog's profile or really to return back to 500px at all, once you're in a Portfolio. That needs to change if we want to keep people on the site! 2. Some of the styles that use some kind of forward / back arrows don't work with the keyboard R L arrows. That makes the technology feel WAY behind. Anywhere that arrows are used, the keyboard arrows should also be enabled. 3. It would be fantastic if we had theme choices, yet each & every theme had the capability to show captions or not. Currently, we may have to decide on a theme based on the limitations of that ability or non-ability, which, if you want captions, doesn't give many options. (Also, the "i" for "info" is terribly tiny in some themes) 4. For the themes where there are smaller thumbs (like "Square" and "Organization" (or whatever it's called), it sure would be great if the thumbs were a bit larger and in original format, rather than square. In some of those themes, you can't even click on the photo to see its actual format! 5. It would also be great if each theme allowed the possibility of clicking through to the photo itself. Currently a couple of them allow this, but not many. 6. Where there are captions available... it's really great if they have a transparent/translucent background & only overlap the photo somewhat or not at all. There's a theme or two where the captions are way too intrusive. 7. On one theme (sorry, I forget which one right now) the "Collections" list is impossible to find because it's on my banner. 8. Instead of having to categorize all of our photos twice-- once for Photo Sets and once for Portfolio Collections-- why not have the option for Portfolio to utilize the same list? The other odd thing with that is that we can't even give sets & collections the same name!? I consequently have to call one of my sets "Autumn" and one of my categories "Fall" even though they have the exact same photos in them. It's just more meaningless work for a lot of people.
