What is the Licensing Manager?
The Licensing Manager is a new workspace where Licensing Contributors can submit, update, organize and track all of your photo assets that you want to license through 500px and our exclusive distribution partners.
Why do I need a Licensing Manager?
The Licensing Manager simplifies the submission process for 500px Licensing Contributors. The Licensing Manager page allows 500px Licensing Contributors the ability to submit, update, organize and track all of your photo assets that you want to license through 500px and our exclusive distribution partners.
Here are a few definitions to help you interpret the information in the Licensing Manager page:
You’ll see that the Not submitted section is new. Not submitted consists of photos that are available on your profile in various privacy states, but have not been submitted to 500px Licensing before. You’ll be able to select single or multiple photos from the Not submitted folder and submit them for Licensing directly in the Licensing Manager.
The Under review folder is pretty straight forward. All of your photos that are pending review by our inspectors are organized in this folder. Photos in the Under review folder cannot be edited or modified until our inspectors have reviewed the photo(s).
The Changes required folder is where you can see your photos that have been reviewed, but soft failed because they have an issue that needs to be fixed before it re-inspection or acceptance. Click on a photo and you will see information displayed about the changes required in the right side panel. At the top of the right side panel, under Changes required, it will provide a description of the issue that needs to be addressed.
Under the Accepted folder, you will find all of your photos that have been accepted to Licensing. Clicking on a photo will give you additional details about the photo in the right side panel, including: where the photo is currently available for sale, if releases are attached, title, keywords, exclusivity, submission date, and other relevant information.
The Declined folder holds your photos that have been declined for Licensing. When a photo is clicked on, details are shown in the right side panel. At the top of the right side panel, under Reason for Decline, it will give a reason why the photo was not accepted.
Finally, the Removed folder is where you will find any photos that you have chosen to remove from Licensing or have been removed by 500px. Clicking on a photo will reveal details about the removal in the right side panel.
Is there anything that Licensing photographers won’t have access to now?
We have removed the Photos subpage from Licensing>Settings along with the Licensing Request Form. These pages were part of our legacy Licensing submission workflow and as such, are now replaced by the Licensing Manager workflow updates.
Can I still download high resolution images of Licensing Manager content?
Yes. The ability to download your high resolution Licensing images is available in the Licensing Manager section. If you hover over a thumbnail of the image, you’ll see a download icon:
Can I still upload watermarked versions of my images via the Photo Manager or Uploader, and then re-upload high resolution images for Licensing?
Yes. The ability to re-upload is still available for photos that have not yet been submitted for licensing.
For your next upload, these are the specific steps you'd need to take:
1. Upload the watermarked photo, via Uploader or the Photo Manager.
2. Select the same photo and click on the "License this photo" checkbox.
3. Click on the "Upload photo" button.
4. Upload un-watermarked version
Can I still select editorial for License Type or is it only commercial for licensing?
In the past, regardless of which license model a user selected at the time of submission, 500px photo editors would still decide which specific license model best suited the photo. That is the same today, only we've removed the option to pre-select Licensing Type to reduce confusion at the time of submission.
