What is a Connect sale?
Connect is a solution we offer to customers that allow them to embed Getty Images content, metadata and search functionality directly inside their tools, products and services.
Because of typical high volumes and unique usages of Connect, your royalties on your statement may be reported as fractions of a cent, to 5 decimal points.
If an end-user of these customers would like to purchase a license for your photo it would not be part of Connect Sales. They would be redirected to Getty Images to purchase a Royalty-Free License.
Types of Connect sales:
"Cost Per View"
This is when a customer makes content available to be viewed only by their users.
The customer pays Getty Images a set rate for views of Getty Images content in a given month. We share that revenue proportionally across the total number of times a specific image file is viewed that month to establish a price per file. Royalty rates are applied to the price per file.
Typical customers of this Connect usage are news aggregators, small-sized publishers, self-publishers, social networks and blog sites.
"Rev Share Ad based"
This is when a customer makes content available to be viewed only by their users.
The customer pays Getty Images a percentage of overall advertising revenues generated by views of web or mobile pages that include Getty Images content. We share that revenue proportionally across the total number of times a specific image or video file is viewed that month to establish a price per file. Royalty rates are applied to the price per file.
Typical customers of this Connect usage are large media publishers with an established ad platform.
"Price Per Image"
This is when a customer makes the content available to their users for a defined use.
The customer pays a fixed price for every download.
Typical customers of this Connect usage are ad creation services, website building tools, presentation or media creation tools.
"Fixed Usage Fee"
This is when a customer makes the content available to their users for a defined use.
The customer pays a fixed price for a high volume of files. We determine the price per file by dividing the customer’s fee by the number of files they used.
Typical customers of this Connect usage are technology companies that provide internet-related services and products.
There are sales for a fraction of a cent, does this carry forward to future statements once a certain threshold is met?
No. An image needs to be viewed enough times within the terms of the license (the month the image was licensed from Getty Images to the customer and for which we received a specific amount of ad revenue) to generate at least a $0.01 royalty.
All payouts to the photographer that are above $0.01 will be processed and will appear in your Earnings. This does not mean that price is what the photo sold for, but is your share based on the exclusivity you have assigned to your photo, either exclusive or non-exclusive.
If an image is viewed for a license in one month (January) but not viewed again until a future license (February) and those views only yielded a fraction of a cent, then those part of a cent royalties are not carried forward and added together.
Why Connect sales?
Incremental Scale– These are sales of your content that would have not otherwise happened on iStock or Getty. We do these integrations so our contributor’s content is right inside an End User’s workflow exactly where and when they need it. Through integrations like this we can reach that audience at scale.
Non-Cannibalistic – Usually a completely different user base and customer profile to Getty and iStock; these integrations tend to fulfill long tail content needs for personal uses and small businesses.
Highly limited Rights– the rights granted in these integrations are not comparable to RF rights that can be purchased on iStock or Getty. They are typically highly limited by usage, scope or time – i.e. typically the original stock content cannot be downloaded from the platform and has heavy limitations on how it can be used.
