How to enable Not Safe For Work (NSFW) on your account

By default, Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content will be covered with a warning when viewing 500px. If you'd like to skip this warning and enable the viewing of Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content on your account, go to your Settings and scroll down to the bottom right hand side of the panel to enable the Display Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content option, then click Save.

Definition of Not Safe For Work (NSFW)

In order to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for people from all walks of life, we ask that Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content be labeled accurately in order to cater to the preferred experience of our entire community. Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content includes, but is not necessarily limited to nudity with or without sexual implications. This includes visible female nipples and areola (exposed or in see through attire) as well as male and female genitalia (as long as focus is not directly on them). Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content may also include shocking or disturbing images, such as violence or blood, not typically suitable for viewers under the age of 18. Your avatar or cover photo should also not contain any Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content.

Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content on Mobile Apps

In order to make our apps available to everyone, and continue to build an inclusive community that puts our photographers and their work first, we filter Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content out of our iOS and Android apps. The content is still visible for users on our website via a desktop connection, but will not be surfaced through our mobile applications. Meaning, you will not be able to access NSFW content via search, in people’s profiles, and it will not displayed within your Home Feed. This is due to guidelines put in place by both Apple and Google. We are trying to make the 500px mobile experience accessible to everyone, and this means abiding by the rules put in place by the governing policy.

Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content Moderation

We have a team of photo moderators that monitor the site. We also have an automated moderation system. If a photo is reported for being improperly marked as Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content by a member of the 500px community, a moderator will look at the photo to determine if it is Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Content or not. 

Unsuitable Content
 
We do not allow visual material focussing on sexual organs or displaying sexual activity on 500px. This may include details or close-ups of vaginas, penises or anuses. Overtly sexual images or images portraying sexual acts (intercourse, masturbation, oral, etc..) are also unacceptable.
Any images that include child nudity are not suitable for our site and depending on the image and context may be reported to the authorities and IWF.
Any nude images without consent of the subject are unacceptable. This includes any photos taken at a beach or anywhere else the subject may be nude.
Excessive gore, violence, cruelty (animal or otherwise) and any form of illegal activity (depending on the context to which it has been uploaded) is also prohibited.
Images of cultural appropriation (i.e. Caucasian models wearing traditional First Nations, Native American or Indigenous peoples cultural symbols) may also be considered unsuitable content, depending on the context of the image.

If this type of content is found on your 500px account, it will be removed and you will be warned once, then banned if the activity continues. Depending on the severity of the content published, your account may be banned immediately.
 
It's important to recognize that the filtering or removal of content on 500px is the sole discretion of our moderators. As per our Terms of Service, our moderators reserve the right to filter and/or remove content at anytime without detailed explanation.
